Monster house tells the story of a kid who has an obsession with the crazy old man across the street. The old man comes out of his house whenever some kid ventures onto his lawn with their toys or tricycles. He takes the toy and screams at the kid about going on his lawn before he disappears into his house. The kid, DJ, has an obsession with the house and every time he sees something weird happen he records it and takes a picture. Throughout the movie he gets his best friend, and a snobby prep school girl to join in his quest to find out the truth about the house and the old man who lives in it.

I saw the movie in a 3d showing with the ever nerdy 3d glasses. They did a good job of making the movie in 3d with different things that pop put at you like leaves, text, people, etc. The movie does a great job of creating a sense of depth. The characters in the movie are all perfectly motion captured. Everyone from the little girl, to DJ, to his babysitter Z, her boyfriends, DJ?s friends, and his parents move just like you would think they would. The movie does a great job with the atmosphere and you really feel the dread for the different characters throughout as they face the different situations with the house and everything they discover. The soundtrack is a mix of beautiful orchestrated pieces and a little heavy metal that his babysitter listens to.

Overall I really enjoyed every bit of the movie from the little girl riding her tricycle at the beginning to the very end of the movie I was sucked in. The movie also does a great job of giving kids a taste of the world of horror without being too scary at first. Some kids could get frightened by some of the images in the movie as it does get quite dark at times but others will find an enjoyable movie I recommend this movie for all ages who enjoy a good computer animated movie. It has quite a few good laughs, scares, and good feelings throughout.

Final Rating: 5/5 Stars
