Miami Vice tells the story of two detectives in a Miami Vice unit who go undercover after one of their informants calls them sounding urgent. After some undercover FBI agents are killed, one of the higher-ups in the FBI comes to them asking them to go undercover in a drug world to find out who the leak was that got them killed.
From there a good part of the movie is spent making deals and moving goods for the drug bosses. Overall the movie doesn?t really do anything to stick out and for the most part it seems like an extended episode of CSI with more sex, less investigation, and without the likable CSI characters you see every week. Someone going to see the movie for action should be warned that there is less action then collateral had although it is a bit more brutal. People who enjoy the movie would be someone who thinks the workings of the drug underworld is interesting and likes good suspense.
The music fits the mood for the most part throughout the movie with typical club music for each of the multitude of clubs the characters visit throughout. The violence in the movie only gets particularly gorey or otherwise satisfying in the last shootout. While there is a lot of drug trafficking in the movie, the characters do not use the drugs themselves aside from the occasional alcoholic beverage. Overall I found the movie enjoyable but not to the level of Michael Mann?s previous movie, Collateral.

Second Opinion by Dack
I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time, being a fan of, Miami Vice the TV series, Collateral, and Heat. Although the few action scenes and filming techniques Micheal Mann used were top notch, the screenplay was flimsy. I had no idea what was going on half the the time, which is never a good thing for a movie. There were some good dialogues, but you couldn't understand what the hell Collin Farrel was saying half the time. If the line was "We will run drugs to the islands for 500 per kilo" It'd sound like "Wes ill rune dogs ooh a inlands FOR 500 par keelo.". But the final stand off was really entertaining. They used real guns, and didn't mask the sounds, which is a big plus to me. Miami Vice isn't a terrible movie by any means, it's just not very good.
