First Person Shooter
Review by Def-0p

Ok, to start, this game was really kick ass. I saw this game for the first time on a PS3 preview video. And I knew it was a remake so I checked it out on PS2. The action in this game is unbelievable. I think the best part of all of the realistic action in this game is that there are a lot of other soldiers that you’re fighting along side of, and personally that gives a first person shooter the right bang for your buck.

I started to compare this game to my other favorite first person shooter, Halo 2. There are many things that are better than Halo 2 and a lot of things that just don’t amount. One of the features that are in Killzone and not Halo 2 is the reloading. I don’t know about all y'alls out thur, but a good reloading sequence automatically makes a first person shooter better. The reloading in Killzone is VERY realistic. Your character actually looks at his gun while reloading. The sound in the game is also incomparable to Halo 2. Every battle in Killzone is filled with other soldiers shouting and shooting, explosions everywhere and most of those cliché battle sounds. The arsenal of weapons was vast in the sense that each of the weapons was totally different. Everywhere from heavy machine guns to multi-fire automatic rifles (Nazis, you know what I’m talkin’ about!) Halo 2 did have dual weapons, jumping and vehicles, but Killzone made up for not having that kind of stuff.

There is a mode in this game that I found to be particularly awesome. It’s called Battlefields mode. All it really is is a big battlefield with you and a bunch of your men (ISA soldiers) fighting a bunch of other men (Helghast soldiers); you can also switch if you want to (you: Helghast, them: ISA). This seems to be the main attraction to this game. The best part of battlefields mode is the fact that you’re just another soldier, nothing special (like a Spartan or Master Chief, Spartan #117, SIR! Oh sorry got kinda carried away).

The campaign in Killzone was a little disappointing. It was very good until about 2/3 the way in. The bad part was that you weren’t just an ordinary soldier like in battlefields, you were a captain. Another bad part was that in about the middle of the campaign mode, you gain some partners. These partners (disappointingly) are other “main characters,” not regular soldiers; which kind of sucks because they never die. Arrrrgh, it made me very angry. Something else that really disappointed me was that the standard ISA assault rifle (my favorite weapon) ammo was really hard to find, even though you started with it in each of the levels.

Overall, I thought this game was awesome. And best of all… IT’S ONLINE!!!
