Let me say one comment before I start…. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! Yes it’s finally arrived after 4 long years of anticipation. Kingdom Hearts II is the sequel to the legendary game, Kingdom Hearts. Again this is another combination of Squarenix and Disney, but man did they get it right.
Improvements from the first: So, if you’ve played the first one and liked it, you probably want to play this one too. Well first of all let me say that it now has way more action based gameplay. Aerial combat is a big factor in fighting now. The fighting is way faster paced too.
One of the big improvements of this game is the story. The story is WAY more in depth than the first or Chain of Memories. The story is also a lot more emotional this time around. Having gone through puberty, Sora is feeling more for Kairi than ever. The characters are a lot more Final Fantasy orientated in this one, and there are even more cameos. For example, you start off playing as a new hero, Roxas in a 3 HOUR tutorial. Cut scenes a plenty in the beginning. I’m gonna suggest that if you don’t know the storyline from the other two than you’re gonna probably be very lost.
Another improvement is the camera. It’s much farther away from Sora’s back and it’s now controlled by the right thumbstick.
Also, during the game, you don’t just head to different Disney worlds, and kill a bunch of crap than save the day. You have specific missions in certain levels.
And as you’ve probably been asking yourself, yes, the infamous Donald, Goofy and the rest of the Disney characters are back and are their their idiotic selves once more. And you are again playing as Sora, using a giant key to beat the crap out of the creatures called Heartless.
New additions: My favorite addition to the game is the drive forms. Sora, using Goofy and Donald’s help, can transform into super cool “forms” some which have Sora using 2, count em, TWO keyblades. For example the first form you get is Valor Form. Sora’s clothes turn from black to red and he wields two keyblades and leaps all around the friggen place, killing everything.
The summons are odd. One of them, strangely, is Chicken Little.
The gummi ship section in this one is HIGHLY improved. It’s much faster paced and a lot cooler.
You can also use what’s called a “drive” with other characters. I drive is basically a super move initiated between Sora and another character that consumes all of Sora’s MP.
There is also another added slot within the shortcut menu. And you can use items on the shortcut menu now, which makes using potions quicker and easier.
Cons: This game is incredible so it’s very hard for me to think of cons but I do know a few. There still is a lot of button mashing. And that’s about it, really. Oh, and Haley Joel Osment is still playing Sora.
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Lasting appeal: 8.5/10
OVERALL: 9.5/10
