The Descent starts out like pretty much every other horror movie, a group of friends who decides to go on a trip into some far from any city place. In this case, they venture deep into a cave. Even before things really get going, the trek through the cave can get gripping. The all female team sure picked a cave that would scare me away with its close corridors and long drops.
Throughout the movie, as the girls get deeper in the cave, they discover the creatures that have somehow made a home out of the winding cave system. The creatures in this movie don't even have to do anything scary to scare you as they are some super ugly mothers. If you thought Gollum was creepy in the recent Lord of the Rings movies, these things will give you nightmares.
From the moment the girls set foot in the cave, the movie does a good job of keeping you hooked, and in the vein of successful scary video games, only shows you a small amount of light in any given scene at a given time. This creates a constant sense of something watching you from the shadows and definitely isn't recommended for someone who is afraid of the dark.
In everything it does, the movie succeeds in giving a solid suspense/thriller with a good number of quick scares and brutal killings. The circumstances the girls faced sure brought out some badass killers. There is a good amount of gore in the movie but there aren't really any times where the movie focuses on the gore for a very long time. The movie satisfies both the lust for blood and the sweet taste of revenge.

2nd Opinion by Dack:
First off, this movie has the worst tagline out of any movie we've reviewed on Marvel-Ous. "From the Studio that brought you Saw and Hostel". OK. Wow, thanks for telling us that, Clerks II and James Bond have the same studio, so does that mean they are the same? Exactly. But! Moving past the bad poster and tagline, I got more scared in a theatre then I ever had in my life. I do have the "full theatre, so I have to sit in the front row" curse, which..well, if you've ever seen a horror movie in the front or second row, you know what I'm talking about, but no matter where you sit, you will jump at least 5 times. The movie starts out telling a good backstory about the 6 attractive female cave divers, and is mostly just about exploring the cave for about 40 minutes after that. But even before the monsters show up, it's incredibly nail biting and creepy. And once they do...oh boy. For 45 minutes, you won't get more then a 30 second breather. According to Thecoojo, the only light used in the cave scenes of the movie (majority of the film) were from the real flairs or flashlights the girls were carrying. Scare, after scare, after scare, my heart was faster then sonic the hedgehog on speed.
I'll even go as far as saying this is one of, if not the scariest, and best horror movie of all time. If you love a good scare, great story, and a hour and a half adrenalene rush, then this is exactly what you are looking for.
