As most of you know, An American Haunting is the newest horror movie to hit
the market this summer. I saw it this weekend and am here to tell you people
what I thought about it.
American Haunting is based on the true story and events of what took place
in the town of Red River, Tennessee, where a spirit attacked a family and
caused the death of one of it's members. The movie starts with a young girl
running through the woods, apparently running from some unseen entity. She
wakes up and her mother tells her she was just havung a nightmare.
As the mother leaves the room, she finds some old package and takes it with
her to her study. She opens it to find a letter from one of her long
deceased family members to her great, great grandmother. The letter starts
off by saying that the person is going to explain all that happened to the
young girl.
The movie then changes time and goes back to 1817, when the great, great
grandmother lived. The movie now focuses on Betsy Bell and her family. In one scene, it shows her father and mother standing in front of what seems to be a court of sorts along with another woman. It seems that Betsy's father cheated the other woman out of some land and now the woman wants compensation. The court tells Betsy's father that he must return the land to the woman, but he does not have to give her the money that he made off of it. As the Bell family turns to go, the woman calls to Besty's father and tells him that he and his
daughter will be cursed. That night, some strange stuff starts happening in the Bell house. Then, a few nights later, Betsy gets attacked by some unseen entity and her family witnesses the entire attack. Of course, at first, they try to explain the attack in a logical way, but soon, they discover that there is absolutely no explanation for what is happening.
Overall, I thought that ir is was pretty good for a horror movie, had good acting, and a great horror aspect, so I give it 4 stars. And just as a warning, make sure you aren't holding any popcorn when
you watch this movie...
Final Score: 4/5 stars
