Amazing Grace
Has its moments of emotional power and wisdom-but they are few and far between.
Review by Sirus
“Amazing Grace” is no longer just the title of a beloved church hymn. Now it is the title of a movie, but not one that has no connection. The movie, “Amazing Grace” tells the uplifting story of William Wilberforce, the man who, through his courage and perseverance, was able to orchestrate the abolishment of slavery in England. The movie is as arduous as the fight Wilberforce had to go through might sound. A good amount of the movie is spent in the British Parliament where we get to listen to boring bureaucrats argue about issues of the time. The movie does have its moments of emotional power and wisdom but they are few and far between. Sadly, what could have turned out as a fantastic inspiration, fails to keep the attention of the viewers during the more boring parts. It does include scenes with John Newton, the song’s writer but not enough focus is on his story. As a historical drama and as an educational piece, “Amazing Grace” is certainly well done but it could have been a lot better.
Final Score: 3/5
