WALL-E
One of the best love stories in recent memory.

Movies for kids have really been on a slippery slope to becoming, well, crap. Past generations had genius animation like Looney Tunes, Ren & Stimpy and Fantasia that kids grew up on. Now, with the revolution of Computer Animation, the technology has become much more advanced, but the films themselves have been rather uninspired. Films such as Shrek, Chicken Little, Barnyard, TMNT and many more pandered to lame, usually fart, jokes. Throughout the onslaught of these pictures, though, Pixar has been making quality animated pictures that are truly movie-magic. This summer, Pixar returns with its latest classic, WALL-E.
WALL-E is a robot. In the future, a corporation called Buy n Large (an obvious parody of big box stores like Wal-Mart) has taken over the world. The human race has become obsessed with consumerism and because of this, the world is now overrun with trash. The Earth can no longer sustain life, so everyone leaves the planet in giant spaceships so that WALL-E robots can clean up the earth. However, all but one WALL-E robot is eventually deactivated. Now, WALL-E, the last robot on Earth still spends every day managing the trash. He seems to have developed a personality, so he collects objects he finds interesting. One day, a robot named EVA is dropped off on Earth, and WALL-E falls in love.
That's right, WALL-E is a love story about robots. Even though it's not about humans, though, it's still one of the best love stories in recent memory. This is probably because of the way Pixar pulled the movie off. The first half has no dialog. Instead, the story is told through movements and noises. This method is really innovative and much better than having the robots talk in annoying voices, which most studios would do.
The animation is simply stunning. Pixar has always put out the best looking looking computer animated films, and WALL-E is no exception. The movie doesn't pander to kids. Although kids will love the cute robots and characters, adults will appreciate the love story and the surprisingly good social commentary on consumerism.
WALL-E is a great movie. It's not Pixar's very best, but it's easily a close third after Toy Story and Ratatouille. The whole family will truly enjoy WALL-E, a movie that truly begs the question: “Will Pixar ever make a bad movie?”.
