WTC, like United 93 before it, can be viewed by some who don’t know much about the actual premise of the movie as disrespectful to the memory of people who lost their lives on that most tragic of days. Like united 93, WTC is everything but disrespectful and is dedicated to the people who lost their lives fighting for good on that day. WTC is very much a solemn reminder of the events that took place on September 11th. The movie focuses on the brave men of the NYPD who work for the port authority. These men were just going about their daily lives, many of them with kids and a wife at home, when the planes hit the towers. Like any good police force would want to do, they answered the call to help the people trapped in the towers after the planes hit.
The story follows Will Jimeno, John McLoughlin and three others who rush to rescue people trapped and they themselves get caught in the bottom of the tower when it collapses. From that point on, the movie focuses on the two who survive trapped beneath the rubble and the pain they go through as well as the pain of their families who just want them to come home. The movie does a great job portraying the human emotions people go through on both sides. The marines who venture past the barricades searching for survivors and happen upon the two trapped officers show great courage, eventually getting a massive group of fire department personnel to attempt to free the two men.
WTC is more of an eye opener to those who seem to deny that these tragic events took place on that day then it is entertainment. The movie is at its core very sad, depressing and solemn. This is not an action movie. It can be very disturbing to watch what these people go through but it is the perfect reminder of the events that took place on that day that should never be forgotten.
Final Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
