Martin Sheen(Narrator)

With a title like that, one can expect that there is nothing really flashy about the movie and that would be a correct assumption. Who Killed the Electric Car or WKTEC for short, is an emotional documentary about what happened to something that seemed like such an obvious solution to so many problems we face in America today. The movie forces viewers to see the shocking truth about how profits lead companies to take the path of least resistance and stagnation over change.

The movie follows a number of different people throughout the course of the movie and even starts out with some stuff about the original electric cars way back when cars were first invented. It goes on to explain how after some of the initial kinks were worked out with the gas powered cars, the electric car was left in the dust because they were much slower and not as sexy.

The movie then switches to the modern day starting with an act passed in California that would over time require a certain percentage of cars on the road to be electric cars. This led to an initial production of cars but when the car companies decided to fight against the act instead of simply following it, they scrapped the electric car altogether. They even went so far as to recall every single vehicle which was easy because all of them were leased and nobody owned the electric car they drove.

The movie spends the rest of the time examining possible suspects for truly killing the electric car and in the end deciding which of them were to blame. WKTEC is not a movie to go watch for a good time unless you enjoy watching people search for a scapegoat for their problems and business people lie through their teeth about what really happened. That being said, the movie is sad enough to make you cry and direct enough that it makes you re examine your stance on the issue. If you have a critical mind and like documentaries or just love cars, Who Killed the Electric Car? should not be missed.

2nd Opinion by Dack:

This movie was amazing! I actually researched electric cars to buy after I saw it. It really makes you really pissed off and dissapointed at the american government after you see it. Electric Cars could end war, polution, global warming, poverty. Electric Cars run cleaner, accelerate faster, and look sexy. But, now we live in a world of California's Black Cloud of death, because of greed.

WKTEC was greatly written, drew you in, used facts, and almost made you weep for the poor Saturn EV1. If you are intellegent, and are tired of spending half your paycheck on gasoline, go see this movie right away, and tell all your friends. Hands down the best documentary since Farenheit 9/11.
