The Chemical Brothers - We Are the Night
A perfect mix of tracks that ranks up with the best electronic albums.
Review by Dack

The Chemical Brothers have had a long run. Along with The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and others, they helped pioneer the "Big Beat" Electronic genre a decade ago. Since then, they've released quite a few albums. Following up their last and most popular album "Push the Button" which featured the song "Galvanize", The Chemical Brothers are back with their sixth album, "We Are the Night", a perfect mix of tracks that ranks up with the best electronic albums, and is The Chemical Brothers best effort thus far.

"We Are the Night" at first has a very atmospheric and trance-like feel to it. Kicking off with the album titled song "We Are the Night", a long, fast beat atmospheric sounding song that sets the tone for the entire album. "All Rights Reversed" is one of the best tracks on the album. It's a collaboration between The Chemical Brothers, and one of my favorite bands "Klaxons". The track is always changing, never going to where you think it is. It's an extremely original electronic song that is boosted to greatness by "Klaxons" rock and vocal influence on it. Following up "All Rights Reversed" is "Saturate", a instrumental song is a simple yet catchy song with some great beats inside of it. The first single of the album "Do It Again" is just an awesome song. The lyrics are great, and can be interpreted in many different ways. It's the most danceable track on "We Are the Night", and when you hear it, yes, you'll want to dance to it. Like "All Rights Reversed", even though it's a repetitive song, it always goes in a new direction keeping it fresh and exciting even at it's near six minute length.

Weird sound effects and a baby laughing are the main feature of "Das Spiegel" a very strange song that comes together and forms a great electronic song. The album takes it's strangest turn with the rap infused "The Salmon Dance". The popular rapper "Fat Lip" lends his voice to this Electronic/Rap crossover, talking about how to do "The Salmon Dance" with "Sammy the Salmon" a fictional fish. Not only is the song hilarious, and a borderline revolutionary song, but it is the best song on the album. By the time you read this review it will probably be being played on all kinds of radio stations. "A Modern Midnight Conversion" is another atmospheric song with a few amazing beats ongoing, and more getting added along the way. It has only one line of lyrics "Listen to your heart, don't run away". It's a very unique, and dare I say beautiful song. "Battle Scars" is a more of a vocal keen track than beat. It's fast paced, with a voice telling a story. It's intriguing and is a perfect fit in this album. "We Are the Night" concludes with "The Pills Won't Help you Now", a slow and beautiful song that remains atmospheric.

"We Are the Night" is a very impressive "Chemical Brothers" effort. Mixing trance, electronica, dance, and even rap while retaining an atmospheric feel, "The Chemical Brothers" have created a gem, and have shown their staying power in the growing world of Electronic.
