Smokin' Aces
As a crazy bloody action movie, “Smokin’ Aces” does the job.
Review by Sirus

“Smokin’ Aces” is a strange movie. The movie is mostly a mixture of the insane humorous violence in 2005’s Domino mixed with the intrigue of a well written crime drama. Obviously with the type of people who are modern day gangster hit-men you are going to have a level of moronic street language. Many of the hit-men in the movie speak like that and it helps to make them feel realistic. The movie revolves around a group of hit-men and law enforcement officials all going after the same man who is an informant for the FBI. Most of these crazy guys are going in hoping to come out with a million dollar reward for their time. Along the way, there are tons of bloody shootouts between these guys and the FBI. All of them are well done.

Overall, I found myself giggling like a little school girl for a good third of the movie at the absolute ridiculous nature of the characters and situations they were getting themselves in. Fans of movies like Crank will enjoy these parts but others may feel unfulfilled and wanting for more sustenance. As a crazy bloody action movie, “Smokin’ Aces” does the job. I left the movie satisfied for what it gave me but at the same time, the twist at the end felt really tacked on. As long as you expect this movie to be nothing more than senseless violence, and you are ok with that, then it’s not bad and you could do a lot worse than “Smokin’ Aces”. I enjoyed it for what it was but it could have been much more in a different context.
