Shrek 3
Up to par with the quality of the first movie.

The gang is all back for the third Shrek movie. Fiona and Shrek are living with Fiona’s parents and, due to Fiona’s father’s failing health, they are given a few responsibilities in his stead. Shrek, being a huge ogre, messes up all of his responsibilities horribly with many of these mess ups turning out quite funny. Shrek starts to get depressed at his lack of success in any sort of kingly duties and argues with Fiona. Fiona realizes that Shrek is next in line for the throne and wants to make sure he is ready when that happens. The next thing they know, they are summoned into the king’s chamber because he is really dying this time. Shrek is finally told that he is expected to be king and isn’t very happy about that. Before the king passes away, Shrek is able to get the name of another heir who can rule in his place. Shrek goes on a journey to seek out this heir so that he can go back to living in the filthy dirty swamp house he knows and loves. Right before Shrek sets out on his journey, Fiona gives him the news that she is pregnant, another thing he isn’t very happy about. The entire time he is on his journey, Shrek constantly worries about the horrors having children can bring to his life.
As with the two movies before it, Shrek the Third is perfectly animated down to every last detail. About halfway through the movie, I pretty much forgot that I was watching an animated movie. Shrek the Third has the same quality actors voicing every character who makes a recurring role and a few new characters voiced by equally big names. Some may not care much for Justin Timberlake but thankfully he does a solid job as the voice of the heir Shrek goes searching for and makes his character believable. Like in the first two movies, Shrek the Third uses popular songs at just the right moments to heighten the effect of scenes and these work out great here as well. Many people were disappointed in the second Shrek movie, when compared to the first. I am happy to say that Shrek the Third was up to par with the quality of the first movie. There were a multitude of moments in the movie that were simply hilarious, many of these lasting a little longer than the average comedy scene. There were also equally as many scenes that were just awesome beyond words when characters pulled off feats of strength that were simply kick-ass. If you have a connection with the characters in the Shrek series and are looking for a good way to escape and unwind, Shrek the Third is the perfect summer comedy.
Final Score: 4/5
