Prey
Platform: Xbox 360/PC
A great FPS that has a few gameplay problems.
Review by Phantom3790

Prey is the story of Tommy, an American Cherokee indian who lives on the reservation of his people despite the fact that he does not feel at home there. The only reason he stays is because his girlfriend Jen, still feels a connection to her people and land and because his grandfather Enisi, will never leave his home land.

One night while Tommy is at the bar Jen runs, a series of mysterious events occur. At first, it's just a couple a people who call radio stations saying that there are wierd lights in the sky, but they just get dismissed as pranksters. The suddenly, the bar is engulfed in an erie green light. Tommy looks outside and sees that as beams of light hit objects, they are lifted into the air and disappear. Soon after, the roof of the bar rips open and you are lifted into the air. This is how Prey begins.

The gameplay for Prey flows quite smoothly for a next-gen console. Prey has used a control layout that makes the game both easy to play and easy to learn.

As has become the standard for all first person games, to move and look around, you use the left and right analog sticks. Now Prey would be nothing if it weren't for it's weapons. To fire your primary weapon, you of course, pulll the right trigger while the left trigger uses your secondary attack. Of course, you use multiple weapons in Prey and I especially liked how they change the weapons. To change what kind of weapon you are using, you press the right and left buttons. I like this setup because you can make a nice transition between switching guns while firing. And then of course you have your basics. The A button makes you jump, the B button makes you crouch, the X button makes you throw a grenade and last of all, the Y button makes you use spirit walk, the only ability you have. Spirit Walk allows you to reach places that you normally would not be able to in your body because it allows you to leave your body.

As I said, the gameplay for Prey is pretty good, but it could still use some fine tuning. The movement was stiff and I felt like I was playing more as a robot than a human. Also, they definitely could have made the game longer. It just felt too short. And everything was explained way too fast. It would have helped the storyline if things were given to you over time. But overall, I thought it was good. The shooting was fun because they give you a variety of weapons in which to kill you enemies. And I really liked the ability in which when you died, you would go to another level where you could gain health and spirit power before returning to the physical world.

The sound for Prey was excellent. I loved the music that was played because it helped the mood of the game a whole lot and I love it when music does that for a game. The developers did a good job on the sounds for the guns too. I liked them because some of the guns made sounds that were hilarious. Like the acid shotgun for example. When you shot it and it hit an object, it made a sound that is similar to a terd hitting someone in the face. And then there the sound effects for interacting with the spaceship that were also well done. Like when you opened a door, there was a gush of air as if the were air pistons going off. I can't explain it but everything just sounded so good.

And last of all, it's time to cover the graphics of Prey. To say the least, the graphics for this game are the best graphics I have seen on Xbox 360 so far. To tell you the truth, the enviroments are so well done that they actually seem alive. And not to mention the characters. The main human characers look just like you're talking to them in person. You can even see he wrinkles appear on the person's forehead when they frown. And the aliens. Why, you can even see the different colors of pigmentation on their skin. So in all, the graphics for Prey look like you're watching a movie. You just have to see them for yourself.

Overall, I would have to say that Prey is one of the best Xbox 360 games out right now. The graphics are good, the sound is good, but the gameplay is a little sketchy. But still you guys should go out and buy it.
