Juno
Juno is one of the funniest, entertaining and heartwarming films not only of this year, but of all time.

Think of Knocked Up from the women's point of view. Now, take Katherine Heigl and replace her with a sixteen year old hipster constantly being witty. Remember the Apatow-style jokes? Replace them with Thank You For Smoking-esque jokes. Now, you should be picturing one of the smartest, cutest and best comedies of the year, Juno.
The film is about a sixteen year old high school junior named Juno (But not like the city in Alaska!). Juno is a spunky hipster girl. With a cheeseburger phone and endless pop-culture knowledge, Juno is living the dream. One night, she decided to have sex with a boy named Pauly Bleeker (Michael Cera). What was a fun night between friends, soon turns into something else entirely when Juno finds out she's pregnant. At only 16, Juno is not prepared to take care of a baby, so she decides to give it, once born, to an adoptive family. The film takes course over her entire pregnancy as she faces the hardships—physically and socially—of being pregnant, while she tries to remain her quirky hip self.

I absolutely fell in love with
Juno. It's not the plot of the movie that won me over. While it's a great idea, it's nothing revolutionary. It's the acting and dialog that makes
Juno. The film
Hard Candy featured an incredible performance from the young Ellen Paige, one that I thought she could never top. She proved me wrong, because, Ellen Paige is Juno. Cliché to say, but she doesn't seem like she is acting. She seems like she is really this girl. The realistic performance is backed by hilariously realistic dialog from ex-stripper turned screenwriter, Diablo Cody. Anyone who is, or has ever had, hipster (or indie) friends can totally relate to the completely true to life personality of Juno. Her lines comes off at the clever side of the border between clever and annoying, making so much of the movie absolutely hilarious.
As stellar as Ellen Paige's performance was, the whole great cast deserves just as much recognition. Micheal Cera (
Arrested Development, Superbad) plays a quirky, geeky and overall nice teenager on the track team who knocked up Juno. He's not really sure how to react to the situation, but he tries his best to be helpful, even though she doesn't seem like she wants his assistance. Also from
Arrested Development fame, Jason Bateman plays an adoptive father married to the baby-lusting Vanessa (Jennifer Garner). Although it's not a big part, Juno's best friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby), is hilarious as Juno's best friend who is supportive of Juno, but takes the situation so lightly it's comical.
Juno turned out perfect. Great directing, acting and script bonded to create something that seemed less like a film, and more like watching people you know in real life. Hopefully, Ellen Paige continues to get more roles and Jason Reitman (director of
Juno/Thank You for Smoking) direct more films.
Juno is one of the funniest, entertaining and heartwarming films not only of this year, but of all time; it's one of the few movies I thought about how much I liked it afterwards and wanted to see it again.
