Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
A welcome entry into the Indiana Jones series.

Review by Sirus

The Indiana Jones movies have experienced financial success and amassed a loyal following from numerous fans. The movies are successful because they convey a sense of adventure in the quest for knowledge having to do with people and cultures of the past. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is a man of many talents. He is a tenured college professor, an archaeologist, and speaks many languages. In the newest movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Indy is faced with the latest evil superpower seeking ancient powers. The Soviets are after old artifacts so that they can use psychic powers to aid them in world domination. Indy gets sucked into the search by a young boy named Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) who is acquainted with one of Indy’s fellow archaeologists Professor 'Ox' Oxley. Mutt says that his mother and Ox are in trouble for what they found in their search. Ox has asked Mutt to seek out Indy for help so they head off to South America in search of the Crystal Skull of legends.

Harrison Ford has aged since his last Indiana Jones movie but still has it in him. Every signature Indiana Jones move and look is still pulled off with style. Shia LaBeouf is a welcome addition to the movies with his stylish greaser look.. His acting is top notch and we get to see many changes in emotion through his facial expressions. Cate Blanchett plays the highest up Soviet we get to see and she does an amazing Russian accent while pulling off the hard-ass personality perfectly. The music is as masterful as one might expect from John Williams. The ever catchy Indiana Jones main theme is put to great use in the new compositions. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull moves at a fast pace for the complete length of the movie. The audience is constantly bombarded with either fast-moving action or some new archaeological clues. The action is consistently humorous and I found myself laughing as much if not more than I did during The Last Crusade. The characters are well developed and the story comes to a satisfying conclusion. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a welcome entry into the Indiana Jones series and my second favorite Indy movie.

Second Opinion

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a fine follow up in the classic franchise. Even though I'd rank it below the first three movies, it is still a perfectly fine entry into the series. The movie isn't trying to reboot the franchise, instead embracing it. A lot of loose ends from past films are tied up, which is refreshing to see in a follow up. There are a few cheesy scenes and the CGI is a bit overused, but overall it's still a very fun ride. I hope to see even more Indiana Jones movies in the future if they are as good as this one.
