Hot Fuzz
A bloody good time filled with well spaced laughter.
Review by Sirus
Hot Fuzz is the latest infusion of British comedy and action from the guys behind Shawn of the Dead, a hilarious zombie movie. Hot Fuzz tells the story of Nicholas Angel, a man who has always given everything he has in his pursuits throughout school and since joining the force. He is so good that he makes everyone else look bad. His superiors in London decide to send him off to a small village by the name of Sandford where a sergeant position has opened up. Despite his pleadings to stay in the big city, Nick is forced to take a trip half way across the country and join a police force in name only. Everybody in the town has a lax attitude about them and Nick can never get it through his head why his colleagues refuse to classify any suspicious deaths in town as murder. Soon after joining the Sandford Police Department, he is joined by Danny Butterman, the son of the chief inspector and now Nick’s partner. Despite having grown up as a police officer all his life, Danny is quite carefree and naive, at least until Nick shows him how things really are.
The first half of the movie is riddled with frustration as we have to watch Nick’s futile attempts to convince somebody that the large number of accidents happening is something more than just accidental. The average action junkie would consider it slow and might not catch the multitude of British jokes. Thankfully, it does reach a point where thing are taken up a notch and we have some of the best action I have seen. There is enough quality action here to satisfy the action junkies but the gore heads might find themselves a little disappointed, if that is all they are into, although they will appreciate the few well done decapitations and impalings. Hot Fuzz is a great movie that has its moments but isn’t as beginning-to-end awesome as Shawn of the Dead before it. Fans of Shawn of the Dead will have a blast as will anyone looking for a little comedy tied in with their shoot-outs so long as they are willing to laugh at a movie that is laughing at itself. Hot Fuzz is still, in the end, a bloody good time filled with well spaced laughter.
