Celebrating 3 years in business!
Hostel: Part II
Boring story with good gore.
Review by Sirus

The first Hostel movie was advertised as something deeply twisted and disturbing through a large campaign with many advertisements appearing on TV. It had its moments but, aside from one extremely sadistic scene in the movie, will largely be forgotten by the general public while hailed by gore hounds. “Hostel Part 2”, so named because it starts out right at the end of the first movie, takes the story of the first movie and starts over with new characters and a few changes. “Hostel Part 2” tells the story of three American girls who are in school in Rome and decide to take a trip to Prague. While they are on the train to Prague, they meet up with one of their classmates who tells them about some fantastic hot springs in Slovakia where they can truly know relaxation. This time we also see the faces of the businessmen who are bidding on the girls before any of the girls comes close to danger. It is interesting to be able to follow both the men who get excited about killing and the girls whom we know are to be their prey.

The first half of the movie has one short scene of gore and a few jump scares but not much substance. While a certain amount of slow introduction to characters is required to feel for them when something bad happens, the girls aren’t exactly likable. I didn’t really feel any more sympathy for this group of party girls than I did for the group of party boys in the first movie. What a movie like this comes down to is the gore and with a huge bar set by the singularly most disturbing scene in the first movie, I certainly required a lot to impress. In terms of gore, “Hostel Part 2” delivers with two scenes that are extremely satisfying. My favorite gory scene would go great in the background of a music video for Cradle of Filth. The two premier gore scenes in “Hostel Part 2” are extreme adrenaline rushes at their most basic level. I was glad that the gang of violent children from the first movie makes an appearance again with hilarious results. In the end, fans of the first Hostel and of the Saw series will find some quick thrills in “Hostel Part 2” that they will want to revisit again and again on DVD but not so much the parts in between. If, like me, you are able to forget the bad parts in favor of the sick parts, you will have a lot of fun at “Hostel Part 2”. .
