The Hills Have Eyes II
The lucky ones steer clear.
Review by Sirus

The Hills Have Eyes 2 is a sequel to last year’s remake of the first Hills Have Eyes movie from the same upstart directors. The first remake was well done with an intelligent cast that made the movie exciting. As is the trend in the movie industry, they couldn’t be happy with their success and decided to make a sequel. This sequel is not connected to the original Hills Have Eyes 2 movie but it might as well be because it’s almost as bad.

The movie starts out with a disturbing scene of a woman who is chained to a bed while topless and panting. After a few moments of watching her, we realize that she is not being raped but is instead in labor and about to provide the sick mutants with their next member. We see a graphic birth of a mutant baby in one of the movie’s three good scenes. Next we see a group of military personnel attempting to set up monitoring equipment to keep watch over an area that used to be a nuclear testing site. Not long afterwards we see the researchers brutally murdered by the hill people.

Next we are introduced to an idiotic group of military rookies. These dumb rookies are fighting through a training mission where they make tons of dumb mistakes and get chewed out by their supervisor. You better like some of these guys because you will have to watch them till the end. This group is not only poorly acted but also poorly written. They bicker like little high school kids and look like they are gearing up to play paintball rather than save the researchers from the horrors they have encountered.

For the majority of the movie, I was just aching for it to end. Thank God it was only 90 minutes long. But wait, the gore will save the movie, right?? There are three well done scenes of gore in the entire movie but they are not enough to save the rest of the movie from disaster. Even fans of the first Hills Have Eyes movie should stay away. There are so many horror movies released lately that you can do a lot better than this. The studio created a tagline for The Hills Have Eyes 2 saying that this time the lucky ones die last but instead, they should have said the lucky ones steer clear. I would not recommend The Hills Have Eyes 2 to anyone. It boils down to a boring trek with a couple jump scares and a little gore but nothing much exciting.
