Eagle Eye
It may rely a little heavily on conventions but I didn’t care when my heart was racing, adrenaline was flowing, and tears were flowing down my cheek.

If you have been to the movies in the last few months, chances are you have seen multiple trailers for Eagle Eye. Similarly though, if you have seen any number of political thrillers in the last few years, you have likely seen Eagle Eye before, just in a different form. Eagle Eye tells the story of two strangers who get called on the telephone by a strange woman who gives them orders and refuses to answer questions. The young man is named Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) and the woman who receives the phone call is named Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan). Jerry is on the run from the FBI led by Agent Thomas Morgan (Billy Bob Thorton). Jerry meets up with Rachael at the command of the voice on the phone. Together they are forced to follow orders because Rachael’s son is going to be killed if they disobey. The story itself has been seen a thousand times but it is an engaging one and the characters are likable.
It is obvious the studio is still trying to decide how marketable Shia LaBeouf is. As one of his fans, I was very happy with his role in this film in spite of its formulaic nature. Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan and Billy Bob Thorton together make a wonderful cast that feels realistic, causing me to feel their pain and root for them.
The music is composed by Brian Tyler. The score is his best to date and is reminiscent of Trevor Jones’ Thirteen Days score with its patriotic themes and powerful orchestra. The score gave the movie the extra kick it needed to make the emotion much more alive. If you haven’t grown tired of political thrillers and want a good thrill ride, Eagle Eye will satisfy. It may rely a little heavily on conventions but I didn’t care when my heart was racing, adrenaline was flowing, and tears were flowing down my cheek.
