Datarock - Datarock Datarock
No matter what genre Datarock is pumping out, they sound magnificent.

Datarock is a unique band. The band consists of two people (although they perform with up to 3 random people often) that are always wearing red jumpsuits and overly big black sunglasses. The band touches on multiple genres that span from Rock to Disco to Sixties music. Although the band mixes genres together, every song on "Datarock Datarock" goes great together. No matter what genre Datarock is pumping out, they sound magnificent.
The album begins with "Bulldozer" a very short song that is a perfect intro while at the same time holding it's own as a smooth rock song, breaking into a screamed intro not common for Datarock. The second song shows you that Datarock is predominately an electronica band. While it's a great electronica song, it's very strange and not quite danceable. The third song "Computer Camp Love" is definitely a highlight of the album. The song is about the lead signer going to computer camp in 1984 and falling in love. "Computer Camp Love" may be the funniest song in the past ten years with lyrics such as "She's not that kind of a girl/Why did she have a penis?". Not only is the song funny, but it has a great beat to go along with it.
Right after the funniest track on the album, we have the best track on the album "Fa-Fa-Fa". "Fa-Fa-Fa" is a incredibly good song. It's a great Rock song, a great Dance song, a great Electronica song -- it's a great song any way you look at it. Guitar hooks and beats lead into simple lyrics and eventually turn into yelling "Fa Fa Fa". It's a fun song, and a song you can rock out or dance out to. Next we have "Princess" a rock song that reminds me of "Fat Boy Slim" and "The Rapture". "Princess" is without doubt the best rock style song on this album. "Laurie" is one of the first slow cuts on the track, and succeeds in showing Datarock isn't all dance. Another good Dance/Rock hybrid is the humorously titled and written song "Sex Me Up". The song goes from a Rock beat to a Dance chorus perfectly, again showing the versatility of Datarock. The album perfectly concludes with "I Will Always Remember You". The track sounds like it's straight out out of late sixties, mixing Datarock's vocals with a beautiful female voice. The song totally breaks away with anything on the album, but is a great song that concludes this amazing album.
"Datarock Datarock" is a great debut album by one of the best new bands in a few years. The album really showcases how much talent Datarock really has. The album is also very long, containing 13 long tracks -- only two or three being uninteresting filler sounding songs, summing up nearly to an hour which is great to see in these days of bands releasing shorter and shorter albums. Datarock is bringing Dance Rock back.
