DOA: Dead or Alive
Good music, good fighting, and hot bodies.

DOA: Dead or Alive is the latest video game to big screen adaption, and surprisingly, it's not bad! DOA is one of the best fighting series created. The series is usually only released with the launch of a console as a showcase game. Video Game adaption movies have had a bad run lately. The genre began with crummy movies like Street Fighter, and Super Mario Bros, but soon Mortal Kombat was released and gave hope that the genre wasn't doomed. Over 20 video game adaptations later, and there hasn't been many good ones, less Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Uwe Boll has played a major part of giving game adaptations a bad name, creating terrible movies nearly every year. Many predicted, including this reviewer, for DOA to be yet another failing video game gone bad film, but DOA is surprisingly entertaining, and never disappoints.
DOA is about a secret tournament that happens every year. The best fighters in the world are invited. The film begins showcasing the three featured (female) fighters back story, and the reason they were invited. Some are going for the fame, others the money, and some forced to go to help a loved one. The movie moves fast. It never stays on a scene for more than a few minutes, including fight scenes which are sometimes cut shorter than I would have liked. After all the fighters, predominantly woman, get to the island the fighting beings. Well, the lounging begins. Well, alright, showcasing the womans bodies begin. DOA has some sexy, sexy, SEXY woman in the movie. They picked some great looking female leads to play the characters. The great thing is, not only are they drop dead gorgeous, they also look like the video game characters, and aren't too bad of actors.
The story isn't too developed or unique, but the movie has a charm to it. It's very entertaining and it's hard to be bored by it. After all, the movie contains good music, good fighting, and hot bodies, and an interesting story to boot -- how could anyone complain! DOA: Dead or alive isn't going to win any awards. It has a lot of acting and cheesy parts, so for that reason it's not getting over a four from me. In the end, it's a fun time that is a great entry into the video game to film genre. God help me, I loved it.
Final Score: 3.5/5
