Chuck: Pilot Chuck does have potential as a show, but only if it improves its humor, action, and, well, everything.Review by

Chuck is the story of an everyday nerdy guy who has problems with getting woman, and even though is smart, has a normal retail job working for "The Nerd Herd" (an obvious spoof of Best Buy's Geek Squad). Chuck receives an email from an old friend containing the nation's entire secrets, and now Chuck is suddenly thrust into the world of a spy, and has to balance that while keeping his old life on track.
The pilot episode of Chuck was disappointing. It never really seemed like it was doing anything original. The action scenes were just dumbed down scenes from other action movies, and it feels like they could have done more with the interesting premise. When you have a hybrid comedy/action, you have to make sure the humor is top-notch, especially if it's the main draw of the show. Chuck's humor and action are balanced right, but that doesn't really matter, because it's not that funny -- it feels like you have to sit through lame jokes so you can get back to the plot. The nerd aspect of the show is rarely accurate, which is another downfall. I'm not sure if they are making fun of nerds, or trying to appeal to them, but they never really capture the life of a real nerd.
Chuck is a forgettable and flawed show that doesn't quite have enough focus to be able to appeal to a certain niche, or the overall general public. Chuck does have potential as a show, but only if it improves its humor, action, and, well, everything.
