Burn After Reading
An absolute blast and a must for any Coen Brothers fan.
Review by Sirus

Osborne Cox (John Malkovich) is a CIA agent who gets called into the office one day unexpectedly where he is informed that he is going to be given a much lower position. Being a proud and somewhat pompous man, he storms out of the office and quits, refusing to take any more of the country’s dirty money. Like many bored ex-CIA members, Osborne decides to write a memoir about his life and experiences in service of the CIA. Somehow Chad Feldheimer (Brad Pitt) and Linda Litzke (Frances McDormand) get their hands on a disc containing part of his memoir. They look at it on a computer and decide that it must be top secret CIA shit they could use to extort some money. At the same time, Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney) and many other characters are playing the online dating game. It almost becomes overwhelming at times with so many characters to keep track of but it’s their interactions that make the movie interesting and completely hilarious.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt give by far the most stand-out performances of all the actors in the film. Brad Pitt especially has such an over-the-top geeky performance that audiences will be laughing frequently simply at his antics. The rest of the cast all give fantastic performances as well, complementing each other nicely. The music in the film is fantastic. Carter Burwell created a variety of pieces including piano, strings, and thunderous percussion. The music fits nicely in the scenes where it's used while being given the ability to stand out. The movie’s script is a little overly endowed with the F word but it has its moments of pure wit as well. There is plenty of ridiculousness in this movie to laugh at even though when you are done laughing you will likely find yourself thinking that you probably shouldn’t have been. So many comedies these days are filled with nothing but sex jokes and dirty humor. It is refreshing to see a comedy that simply exploits the inherent comedy present in everyday human interaction. Burn After Reading is an absolute blast and a must for any Coen Brothers fan.
