Celebrating 3 years in business!

Marvel-Ous staff takes a look back at 2007 and picks their favorite Movies, Games and Music.

Movies

Best Action

Dack:
Winner: The Bourne Ultimatum
As much as I absolutely adored Shoot 'Em Up, The Bourne Ultimatum is a masterpiece. Great story, acting and action added up to make one of the most award-worthy and entertaining movies of the year.
Runner Up: Shoot 'Em Up

Sirus:
Winner: Shoot 'Em Up
Shoot Em Up
Shoot Em Up came out of no where, got little to no press, and didn’t stay in theaters long enough to have everyone see it. The movie was nothing but intense action from start to finish and the things they do in each sequence are nothing short of mind-blowing. To top it off, Shoot Em Up had one of the best-written scripts for an action movie that almost pushed it into the comedy category. Clive Owen gives a fantastic performance that is hard not to love. If you missed this in the theaters, you owe it to yourself to give it a rent or buy when it comes out on DVD.
Runner Up: 300

Overall:
Winner: The Bourne Ultimatum
Runner Up: Shoot 'Em Up

Best Horror

Dack:
Winner: Sunshine
Danny Boyle's Sunshine was a strange movie. The first half of it was breathtaking Science Fiction, the likes of which haven't been seen since 2001: A Space Odyssey. The second half suprisingly turned into pure horror. While I think if Sunshine would have remained a Sci-Fi film, you would have seen some Oscar nods, the horror was so well done that it easily becomes one of the best horror films of the year.
Runner Up: 1408

Sirus:
Winner: 1408
1408 was one of those movies I just went to see because it was based on a Stephen King story. What I found was a movie that was one of the most terrifying experiences I ever had in the theaters. There were multiple jump scares that got me as well as other moments that totally messed with my head.
Runner Up: Sunshine

Overall:
Winner: 1408
Runner Up: Sunshine

Best Drama

Dack:
Winner: No Country For Old Men
The Coen Brother's best film since Fargo, No Country For Old Men had everything. Drama, Action, Comedy and Horror were all mixed together to form a brilliant film that is a contender for 2007's best -- even though the film lost a perfect score because of a dissapointing ending.
Runner Up: Zodiac

Sirus:
Winner: Mr. Brooks
Mr. Brooks takes the serial killer drama for a twist with its deep look at the motivations behind the characters. It intertwines multiple plots perfectly with each one getting just enough development before they are resolved. Chilling performances by Costner and Cook make every bit of the plot believable. Serial killer dramas don’t get much better than this.
Runner Up: American Gangster

Overall:
Winner: No Country For Old Men
Runner Up: American Gangster

Best Animated Film

Dack:
Winner: Ratatouille
I'm not generally a fan of animated kid's films, but Ratatouille utterly blew me away. Beautiful computer animation and story made me love this rat film.
Runner Up: Paprika

Sirus:
Winner: Ratatouille
Ratatouille
Ratatouille is a fantastic movie that has a story that is easy to relate to while at the same time poking fun at critics. The film captures the charm of France and gives us fantastic emotional characters we really feel for. It is another gem from the Pixar team.
Runner Up: The Simpsons Movie

Overall:
Winner: Ratatouille
Runner Up: Paprika

Best Fantasy Film

Overall by Sirus:
Winner: Stardust
Stardust brought together a love story in a fantasy setting so perfectly with its creepy witches and magic that worked perfectly. The cast was perfect as was the chemistry between the movie’s couple.
Runner Up: The Golden Compass

Best Music(al) Film

Dack:
Winner: Once
Once was a little indie film with unknown actors that snuck into theatres this year. If there is an example of a beautiful movie, Once is it. Not only does it feature some of the best music ever seen in a music oriented film, but also is an emotional and realistic love story.
Runner Up: Sweeney Todd

Sirus:
Winner: August Rush
August Rush
August Rush is an emotionally powerful journey about love and longing. It is strengthened by its fantastic music that combines rock and classical music masterfully. It hit me with such power that I will remember the film for years.
Runner Up: Sweeney Todd

Overall:
Winner: Once
Runner Up: August Rush
