Across the Universe
It was the completely random stuff shown in the trailer that lured me in and then turned me off in the end.

Across the Universe is a musical film focused on young love and naiveté in a world torn apart by the Vietnam War. We see families cursing the war because it took away their sons and young adults who become activists to give their life direction. Once things settle down and the movie finds its focus, the rest of it is about a young couple, Jude and Lucy, as they enjoy young love. Jude is an immigrant who made his way into the US illegally to find his long-lost dad. He meets a young college delinquent named Max who decides that school is too much for him and he wants to move to New York. Jude and Max move in together in New York, in an apartment filled with strange tenants. Max’s sister, Lucy, comes later because she wants to spend the summer with her brother. She soon finds herself in love with Jude. Their love is tested as the events of the time lead Lucy into activism.
The movie takes quite a lot of Beatles and other music from the time and mixes them with the plot although only about half of the songs end up fitting with the plot. The other half, are associated with some extremely random scenes that don't help the story much. If you have a large amount of nostalgia towards 60’s music, especially the Beatles stuff, you may find a lot of the randomness forgivable and even enjoyable. If you are looking for a deep story filled with complex characters, you won’t find them here. These characters are young and immature. Looking back, I find myself confused that I was so excited for Across the Universe, after watching the trailers, because it was the completely random stuff shown in the trailer that lured me in and then turned me off in the end.
