300
It is one of the most satisfying things moviegoers can ever witness to see 300 buff and sweaty men slaughtering the enemy by the thousands.
Review by Sirus

There are some in this country who would like the rest of the world to forget the glory men feel on the battlefield. They would have us believe that this movie is not worth your time so that one less person will remember the sacrifice that was given in that time and in our time for democracy. No matter what they would have us believe, there is one truth. One truth that will be forever written on the history books of a glorious battle for freedom. The historic battle portrayed in the movie was necessary in the face of corrupt politicians to rally the troops to defend their city.

300 is a movie based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller that is about the historic battle of Thermopylae. The movie starts out beautifully with the story of the rigid trials each and every Spartan warrior must go through before he can be considered a man. We watch as the boy who is later to be king of Sparta is trained first by his father and then cast out into the cruel and unforgiving world to fend for himself and gain strength and composure in the face of the enemy.

Years later, Leonidas is king of Sparta and Xerxes, leader of the Persian empire, sends him a messenger. The messenger tells him that they have to choose between surrender and death because by all logic they stand no chance against the massive millions who fight for Xerxes. Being true proud warriors as they are, Leonidas refuses the offer and decides to march 300 of Sparta’s best men to face the army. Faced with little support from the government he rules, Leonidas has no choice but to go out and fight knowing full well that the only way he will get any reinforcements is if he is to die on the battlefield.

The majority of the remainder of the movie then unfolds. as all grisly war epics should, with kick-ass grisly battle filled to the brim with death and destruction. It is one of the most satisfying things moviegoers can ever witness to see 300 buff and sweaty men slaughtering the enemy by the thousands. With their superior tactics and skill, the men led into battle by Leonidas are able to do much more damage than they should otherwise be able to. The battles help the movie earn the entirety of the R-rating it has put on it. Battles are filled with satisfying impaling after impaling with a few beautifully executed beheadings and dismemberments for kicks.

300 is the kind of movie for people who will cheer at every triumph won by these men and they will love every minute of it just as I did. The movie also sports an impressive soundtrack with a multitude of styles of music present. The music is a beautiful combination of the now commonplace Arabic sounding chanting, slower emotional pieces, and blood pumping battle themes that will have all men ready for action. If a combination of true politics and intense battles is what gets you excited, 300 is the must-see movie of the year and possibly one of the best epic movies in recent years.

Kiwi's Review:

Despite accusations of parallels to current affairs in Iraq, 300 is nothing more than a comic book brought to life, unsurprisingly much like Sin City. This doesn't mean that it's just a comic book movie, however; indeed, it is so much more than that. The utilization of bluescreens to create the panel look of a background while using live actors gives 300 a unique look, and the material is adapted perfectly for the big screen.

The extraordinary battle scenes obviously don't have to be mentioned, and yes, they are as good as you might have heard or expected. Surprisingly enough, the violence isn't over-the-top, and fits the scenes as well as everything else about this movie: the blend of classic music with metal power chords, the dialogue, the direction the film as a whole was given, quite virtually everything. Apart from a slightly unnecessary sex scene, which isn't even that graphic or long, every scene of this movie was made to fit. While I think some of it may have to do with Miller's good base material, all actors and actresses play their roles with convincing gravity, and all turn in excellent performances, which surprised me considering, to my knowledge, these people are all nobodies. You'll laugh, you'll cheer, you'll grin, and most definitely, you will feel for these people when their times are up.

If you don't want to see it for the gruesomeness, of which there really isn't any, then see it for the political aspects; or to see the characters that develop in under two hours; or maybe to admire the size and detail of the various armies and warriors, such as Xerxes and his platform, or the grand warrior used by the Immortals; but whatever your choice, this is a movie everyone should see once in order to, at the very least, admire the art and work put into making this movie. It's not just a great epic war movie but a great movie in general, and once you see it, maybe you'll come out of the theatre like I did, realizing how right Leonidas was: This is Sparta.

Dack's Review:

300 is the latest adaptation of Frank Millers' graphic novel line, coming out only a few years after "Sin City". Their are not many similarities between the two, but while Sin City was a bloody, gritty action movie, 300 is a based on a true story epic battle movie that succeeds as an action movie every where the great -- yet lacking Sin City, failed.

300 is a true story based on Frank Millers' Graphic novel of the same name...which was influenced by the classic movie "300 Spartans"...which is based on the true story of The Battle of Thermopylae. Luckily the story of the 300 Spartans hasn't lost anything in the generations the story has existed -- in fact it has blossomed into quite the impressive film.

300 begins telling the story of the life of King Leonidas, the main character in 300. After establishing Leonidas as a callus man, the feud between Sparta and Persia begins after a messenger's offer of Sparta's submission is "Cut Down". After marching towards the Persian army, and getting in position, the action begins, and doesn't let up until the credits roll.

The action is plain awesome. You'll be cheering, laughing, and cringing at the numerous fights -- including , but not limited to; spear fights in bullet time, and killing up to 10 enemies in 5 seconds or less. The soundtrack is awesome; classical Greek music mixed with rock is the sound of cool.

The way 300 was filmed was truly amazing. I'm now a believer in blue screening. Why go outside, when you can create one of the most beautiful movies ever created in a warehouse? They wanted to recreate the look and style of Frank Millers' beloved graphic novel, so the idea of blue screening the movie went into effect, and payed off, creating scenery that is a marvel to look at.

300 is one of the best epic battle movies ever made, and after seeing the movie two times, I can genuinely say that it will be a timeless classic. This isn't blasphemy, this isn't madness, THIS IS SPARTA!
