Celebrating 3 years in business!
Announcement:
Dear loyal Marvel-Ous readers and friends,
A time has come in our history as a site where we have to face an incredibly difficult decision. It was not an easy choice to make, but after talking a long time discussing it, we here at Marvel-Ous feel that this great site's journey has come to an end. With the utmost respect and no contempt, today January 30th, 2010, we are announcing the closure of Marvel-Ous.com.
What an incredible journey its been. It's hard to believe that it's been almost 5 years since Marvel-Ous started. What started off has a fun project by a group of friends soon blossomed into much more than we could have ever hoped for. From our humble beginnings as a simple Freewebs site, with your support and patronage, we worked our way up to become a respectably sized gaming and entertainment site. We would have never have believed that it would become as big as it did.
It's incredible how a simple website brought so many people together. At Marvel-Ous, people were introduced to each other who may have never have met otherwise. There was a bond with people invovled with Marvel-Ous that is hard to explain, but was easy to feel. I truly and deeply feel that Marvel-Ous has in someway positively affected anyone who ever worked for it. Many of us had experiences at Marvel-Ous that honed skills, which were used in future endeavors.
Of course without you, the reader, none of this would have been possible. It is incredible how you so enthusiastically embraced Marvel-Ous, giving it patronage and positively promoting it. It's amazing how something that is code on an FTP could impact people so deeply. I know that is certainly true for me. Personally, I wouldn't trade my experience with Marvel-Ous for anything.
What great memories there have been. Running a weekly sword contest. Creating our hilarious podcast that had us doing such things as "reviewing movie trailers". Designing and promoting our myspace page, when at the time, most of the Marvel-Ous staff thought we'd never use MySpace. Starting to watch, play and listen to things from a reviewer's point of view. I remember how if 5 of us saw the movie, we'd tack on 4 second opinions just so everyone was included. The memories are so great and plentiful, I could go on and on listing them. I think everyone that read or worked for Marvel-Ous has their own great personal memories as well.
With all of the above said, some might question the decision to close down Marvel-Ous. What was said above, though, was the main reason for us feeling that it was time to retire the site. After reflecting on our history, we came to realize that the peak of the site had already been reached. While we could easily keep the site going as it is now, we think it would be most respectful for Marvel-Ous' legacy to bring it to a close.
The reason that we believed that we have crossed the peak of the site isn't because our staff have been neglecting it or because our fans have stopped reading it. It's because many of our staff have gone on to do other great things. As said above, I hope and believe that Marvel-Ous played some part in this.
This will be the last thing posted on Marvel-Ous, and in the coming month, the site will go offline. The good news, though, is that the spirit of Marvel-Ous.com will live on. Sirus has decided to continue writing and posting movie reviews under the Marvel-Ous banner on Facebook. The Marvel-Ous staff have endorsed and approved this decision. You will be able to view them here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Marvel-Ous-Movie-Reviews/275178632733?ref=nf.
In closing, I want to thank all of our readers from the bottom of my heart for your support of the site throughout the years. Thank you deeply.
Forever grateful,
Dack - Commander in Chief, Marvel-Ous.com
